But y’all like Volvo’s and it has a Jake brake. I have always heard them called Jay brakes though.

The engine brakes are made by Jacobs, so that’s where the name comes from.

I don't understand why it would be considered to be used in a parking lot to begin with.

Save mechanical brakes, probably.
There are laws against using them on certain roads, close to houses, etc because of the noise.
